Overall I would say I liked the movie and the kids enjoyed it as well.
It has a feel that is quite a bit more deep than the book which I always saw as a fun exploration of a young boys imagination after he had made the best of a bad situation he created for himself by acting poorly. The kid in the movie went beyond acting poorly to simply being a brat but you also felt bad for him because of what led up to it.
When he does make it to where the wild things are it's quite a bit more complicated than the book. All kinds of emotions going on between the wild things which are above the notice of most younger children. I did get teary eyed at one point (won't say why because it might spoil things). The visuals for the movie were incredible and they did an amazing job of bringing the creatures to life and making them seem VERY real.
I did identify, far too well, with what I would say is the main wild thing Carol. He (yes he) reminded me a great deal of myself, or at least the self I have been trying to get away from. Hit pretty darn close to home with some of his negative behavior and perhaps why he did it.
so overall a good movie but not one I would have taken the kids too at the movies because it's so freaking expensive now.
A bit too long, the visuals were great, and one I would recommend for rental. Although I might be tainted because of my fondness for the book when I was a young boy.
