WTH???? (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081006/ap_on_he_me/med_exotic_pets;_ylt=Ai53.yPAegAEsGqq1s_nRmCs0NUE) Seriously, are we supposed to just keep our kids in a plastic bubble for the rest of their lives?

I never considered a hamster to be an exotic pet.

Adults, it is not recommended to play with someone else's snake or cave, especially letting the two touch or interact. If you don't use proper protection with these two things or nature, extreme discomfort can result with nausea, vomiting, extreme swelling and another life to care for. It is strongly recommended that snake and cave interaction be avoided at all costs, otherwise there will be people who will follow this article like gospel, and we will be burdened with more paranoid, gullible "people".

I really loved the part about how you shouldn't let young children even touch these "exotic" animals at petting zoos! Dear friggin' lord!!!!!!!!!! Oh, that and the whole thing about baby chicks. Hello, I grew up on a farm and playing with baby chicks was FUN! They are cute and NOBODY got sick. Hell, my kids -- who haven't grown up on a farm -- have held baby chicks and other animals deemed to have the potential to carry germs. K, getting off my soap box.

Apparently they haven't heard of adult supervision where needed and hand washing after touching animals...something that eliminates all of those, or reduces most of the issues to almost nothing.

Well it sounds like they don't want kids to have fun at all.

The plastic bubble part would just be for our entertainment:muwahaha:

This is just another stupid example of something taken completely out of context. There's nothing wrong with having exotic pets in your house if you have children of any age. This is where the parents are supposed to step in and do their fucking job to supervise and teach. Evidently, there was a parent or two that didn't do their job, that's why the Dr.'s are making these outrageous recommendations.

We've had so many pets over the years. My kids have been taught what to do and what not to do. Granted, we haven't had a snake, turtle, so spider. Give me a break! Opty? My kids doggy/puppy sat for you and they did just fine. That's because I taught them what to do years ago!

I think some parents are just fucking stupid and should be shot.

I grew up with Hamsters. I wouldn't let my kids have one only because they do bite more. Thats why we have rats. MUCH nicer! But as for the exotics I guess I put my kids at risk, we have ferrets :hammer: Bad mommy lol
