so i was looking at the gateway fx 6800-01e (http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668210.php) the other day. read some reviews, and it seems like a nice setup for what i need, and the price doesnt make me want to pass out. anyone know any more about it?

I didn't look deeply into it, but that's because I'm more apt to get a barebones kit and build from there. Is that an option for you or no?

Hrm, alrighty then. Tell me what you want the computer to do, and I'll tell ya if I think it's a good one or not. Just remember, it's only my opinion; everyone is going to have their own yes and no list for PCs!

Don't get a Gateway or an eMachine. If you MUST get prebuilt, follow that one rule.
I've had to fix more of those things, I swear... *twitch*

Honestly, I'd go with a Dell if you're looking for standard industry machines with a decent price. Dell can be a pain in the ass, but they do stand behind their machines. Born just got an incredible computer from a company called Digital Storm. AMAZING computer, but really pricey.
